Last updated: May 2026
This Privacy Policy describes what personal information MyStreetzMag collects when you use our Site, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
To reach us about privacy: editor@mystreetzmag.com
1. What We Collect
a. Information you give us directly
- Newsletter signup: your email address.
- Artist submissions: your name, email, phone (if provided), location, social handles, songs, and any other details you choose to share.
- "Your Story" submissions: your name, email, story content, optional photo, location.
- Shop purchases: shipping name + address (collected by Stripe Checkout — we receive only the parts needed to fulfil the order).
- Editor accounts: your name, email, hashed password. We never store passwords in plain text.
- Editor invites: when an admin invites you, your email and a temporary password (hashed) are stored.
b. Information collected automatically
- Google Analytics (if enabled by the operator) — anonymised page views, country, device, referrer, session duration. Configured via a GA4 Measurement ID.
- Server logs — IP address, user-agent, request URL, response status, timestamp. Used for security and debugging. Logs are typically rotated within 30 days.
- Cookies — see Section 4 below.
c. Information from third parties
- Stripe — payment-confirmation details for orders you place. We never see or store full card numbers; only the last 4 digits, currency, amount, and status.
- Resend — delivery status for newsletters and editor invites we send.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Send you the newsletter (only if you subscribed).
- Review and reply to artist or story submissions.
- Process and fulfil shop orders, and notify you about your order status.
- Authenticate editors who log into the admin dashboard.
- Improve the Site — analytics tell us which pieces resonate, which categories under-perform, etc.
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security issues.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Ever.
3. How We Share Your Information
We share data only with the service providers we need to run the Site:
| Provider | Purpose | Region |
|---|---|---|
| MongoDB Atlas | Database hosting (articles, users, submissions) | Multi-region |
| Stripe | Payment processing | Global |
| Resend | Email delivery (newsletter + editor invites) | US/EU |
| Anthropic (Claude) | AI editing & summarisation. We send article text and search excerpts; we do NOT send your email address or personal contact details to AI providers. | US |
| Google Analytics | Site analytics (anonymised) | Global |
| Emergent platform | Object storage for uploaded images and audio | Cloud |
| WordPress (your instance, if connected) | Cross-publishing of approved articles | Wherever your WP is hosted |
We may also disclose personal data:
- If required by law, regulation, or a valid legal request.
- To protect our rights, property, or the safety of others.
- In the event of a merger, acquisition, or business sale (you'd be notified).
4. Cookies
We use a small number of cookies, all essential:
- Session token cookie — keeps editors logged in. Set when you log in at
/admin/login, expires in 7 days. - Google Analytics cookies (if GA is enabled) — for analytics. These are standard Google
_ga,_gidcookies.
We don't use marketing cookies. We don't run third-party ad pixels (yet).
Most browsers let you block or clear cookies. Doing so won't break the public site, but you'll have to log in again as an editor.
5. Your Rights
Depending on where you live (Nigeria NDPR, EU/UK GDPR, California CCPA, etc.), you may have rights to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Object to certain processing.
- Withdraw consent for the newsletter at any time via the unsubscribe link.
- Data portability — request a copy of your data in machine-readable form.
To exercise any of these rights, email editor@mystreetzmag.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
6. Data Retention
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe.
- Artist & story submissions: kept while the artist/story is published or under review. Rejected submissions are kept for up to 90 days for moderation context, then deleted.
- Shop orders: kept for 7 years for tax and audit purposes (Nigerian commercial law).
- Editor accounts: until you revoke the editor or delete the account.
- Server logs: rotated within 30 days.
7. Security
We use industry-standard protections:
- HTTPS everywhere — all data in transit is encrypted.
- Bcrypt password hashing for editor accounts (12 rounds).
- JWT session tokens with a 7-day expiry; rotated by changing the server-side secret.
- Secrets in environment variables — never checked into source code.
- MongoDB access restricted to the application's IP range.
- Stripe handles all card data — we never see it.
No system is 100% secure. If we ever have a breach affecting your personal data, we'll notify you and the relevant regulator without undue delay.
8. Children
The Site is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have, email us and we'll delete it.
9. International Transfers
Data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside Nigeria (e.g. United States, EU). We rely on standard contractual clauses and the protections offered by our service providers to ensure adequate safeguards.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy at any time. The "Last updated" date will change. If the change is significant, we'll notify subscribers via the newsletter.
